Accepting Applications from

Manufacturing Innovation Challenge is developed with an aim to solve manufacturing sector challenges through emerging smart technologies.

The platform of Manufacturing Innovation Challenge (MIC) has given deep-tech start-ups the opportunity to connect with leading manufacturing firms. The MIC was launched by NASSCOM CoE in order to bring the best minds from industry, academia, start-ups and government to drive a culture of co-creation & research to find solutions for complex business problems. The start-ups are invited to participate in the challenge to propose solutions to the nominated industry use cases and the best solutions get a chance to work with the respective partners.

In the current market scenario, where quick implementations of innovative solutions have become the need, collaborative models are going to be the new trend in the Industry. The enterprises need to adopt such ready-made platforms to speed-up their digital transformation.

With the key objective of leveraging the adoption of advance technologies in manufacturing sector of our country, such initiatives are planned to build collective capabilities between large enterprises and entrepreneurs

Problem Statement

1. Sewing Operator Productivity Improvement (Sponsor Company - Shahi Exports) :

The textile industry is very competitive and to have edge over the global suppliers the industry needs to be efficient and have best cost controls. Being labor intensive, there is a need to map the efficiency and address the gaps from each worker to have optimum efficiency. Having optimum output from labor will benefit the organization overall. A non-intrusive solution (example: computer vision based or other) which is viable and feasible is expected which can help in improving the efficiencies and transparencies.

2. Digitization of Shop floor and integration with top floor (Sponsor Company - Asahi India Glass):

At present most on the shop floor activities, operator is filling shift data manually on hard copy of shift logbook. This data is filled in excel file and used to publish the shift report. Both activities are the time consuming, redundant and there is chance of error in data entry.

More soever this is not real time and managers are not able to see overall performance of Machine/Process/manpower effectiveness in the term of APS, Process yield, Time Yield, Power Consumption, Breakdown time, Adjustment time, Job change time etc real time and hence there is loss in efficiency and timely interventions. A digital intervention is expected to extract data from PLC as well as make manual entry less cumbersome.

3. QC Automation on Assembly line based on AI/ML Analytics (Sponsor Company - SKH-YTECH):

Present QC is totally manual and at times is the bottleneck in the improving the production throughput, the typical errors noticed are missing child part, fasteners and bolts etc. and weld spots.  Since the products are for precision engineering the dimension measurement is critical and with humas in loop makes it tedious and error prone

Vision Camera based Inspection to eliminate manual inspection to check following things

  • Presence of all correct Child Parts
  • Presence of all Fasteners like weld nut, Bolt and studs
  • Presence of all weld spots and their position
  • Verification of Critical dimensions like Distance between 2 holes

Scope of Work

1) Sewing Operator Productivity Improvement (Sponsor Company - Shahi Exports) :

  • Integration of sewing floor with the cutting room for real time status of the work in progress for each line
  • Dashboard with respect to individual operators, his/her sitting, throughput data with respect to time and analytics
  • Reporting of the idle time due to machine breakage and time to rectify it
  • Real time sewing process mapping for each garment to be sewed
  • Final summary of individual operator, shift summary and any other insights to be displayed using the same data

2) Digitization of Shop floor and integration with top floor (Sponsor Company - Asahi India Glass)

  • Shift wise digital records in real time basis
  • Automated report publishing through email for every shift
  • Previous shift performance can be displayed
  • Analytics based on history and insights

3) QC Automation on Assembly line based on AI/ML Analytics (Sponsor Company - SKH-YTECH):

  • AI/ML based QC whether the:
    • Presence of all correct Child Parts
    • Presence of all Fasteners like weld nut, Bolt and studs
    • Presence of all weld spots and their position

Analytics and dashboard of all the important KPIs to be measured

Governing Mechanism:

To finalize the challenge and monitor day-to-day progress of the MIC, a MIC Project Tracking Team shall be constituted. The composition of the team is as follows:

3. Nasscom CoE : Startup Engagement Lead -  Member

4. Nasscom CoE : Ecosystem Lead - Member

Process Flow

1. Program Launch and Registration

The program commences with Application Form floating onto the MeitY Startup Hub (MSH) Portal as well as on Nasscom CoE Website with a mirror links of the form prominently displayed across MyGov/ Startup India and other relevant websites. The MIC Challenge for the sponsor companies would be run according to the Standard operating Procedure (SoP) devised to run the challenges at MSH platform

2.  Raising Awareness and Wide dissemination

Campaigns for raising awareness/ aggressive publicizing/marketing would be undertaken by Nasscom CoE . This would include:

  • Comprehensive coverage across all social media platforms including social media platform of MSH, MeitY, TIDE 2.0 Centers and private (LinkedIn and Twitter) partners.
  • Repetitive rounds of Mass mailers for wider coverage
  • Webinar with relevant stakeholders
  • Wide outreach on other Government platforms like MyGov/ Startup India

3. Evaluation Mechanism

  • There is structured process for the evaluation from submission to presentation in-front of nominated jury
  • The 4 finalists in each of the use case will present their solution to the esteem jury to be graded on pre-define criteria involving innovation, feasibility, viability and team composition of the applying startups

Resultant IPR: 

The rights for the resultant IPR that is created or developed or otherwise resulting directly or indirectly from the winner of the challenge is purely based on the discussions between the Startups and Sponsoring company

Data Privacy

The data generated in the process of using the shortlisted challenges will be treated as per the provision of the existing legal framework/provisions of the country and will rest with the control of Nasscom CoE .

Eligibility Standards

Innovators and mature startups across the nation, having deep-tech capabilities and market ready digital solutions

  • Should have an annual turnover not exceeding Rs. 25 crores
  • Period of existence should not be exceeding 10 years from the Date of Incorporation
  • Should have the total manpower not more than 100 employees

Implementing Agencies

Nasscom CoE will be the executing agency for running the challenge. The industry partners will work closely with Nasscom CoE and provide the problem statement and institute awards to the winners. They will also provide necessary support, infrastructure, technological integration, and resources needed by startups for demonstrating the efficacy of the solution envisaged to be developed under the Challenge.  

Expected Outcomes

Through the successful execution of this Challenge,

  • solutions will be identified as per the problems statements provided by sponsor companies.
  • The development, deployment, and integration of these solutions as a PoC.
  • The pressing problems in the I4.0 would be tackled with the DeepTech matured startups

Awards

  • Paid PoC with the use case sponsor company
  • The winner of each use case will have Free entry for Nasscom CoE acceleration program for a year, this will help them to scale the solutions and have access to experts in this field.

Jury 

Experts from Industries, Academia, user agency, MeitY etc. will be constituted. The top 4 shortlisted startups will make a pitch to the Jury and they will evaluate the solutions from startups on the basis of innovation content, feasible and viability of solutions.

Mentors

Experts from the sponsor industries, academia etc. are being nominated as mentors in each use case.  Each mentor panel consist of representative from sponsor companies (to clear any doubts on the use case), Academia (to support technically and suggestion on the approach) and industry experts (to support on the architecture and feasibility).

There will be a mentor session where the startups can get guidance and clarify any doubts, they have with the mentor panel.
